Building Operator Certification (BOC) Maintenance Points Claim Process

Students who complete training must submit their earned points to maintain their BOC certification and/or Level II TCOC.

Steps to Claim BOC Credits:

  • They must attend the course and ensure it aligns with BOC continuing education categories.
  • For Level I TCOC or BOC certification: Students must accumulate 5 points per year or 15 points every 3 years.
  • For Level II TCOC: Students must accumulate 10 points per year or 30 points every 3 years.
  • Receive a certificate of completion from the training provider.
  • BOC awards 1 maintenance point per hour of training
  • Record the course in the BOC Maintenance Points Tracking Sheet (FORM).
  • Submit the emailed tracking sheet to BOC when due.

Certified Energy Manager (CEM) AEE Credit Claim Process:

CEM certified professionals must renew their certification every 3 years requiring 10 renewal credits.

Steps to Claim CEM Credits:

  • Must attend the class and ensure the training relates to energy management.
  • Receive a certificate of completion from the training provider, which must include:
    • Student’s name
    • Course title, date, and duration
    • Number of CEUs awarded
    • Instructor’s credentials
  • 1 CEU = 10 contact hours
  • 1 CEU = 2 AEE renewal credits
  • Maintain documentation of all training for at least 3 years.
  • Submit training records with the AEE certification renewal application when due.

Professional Engineers (PE) & Architects PDH Claim Process (New York):

Licensed PEs and architects in NY must complete continuing education requirements to renew their licenses.

Steps to Claim PDH Credits:

  • Attend the course and ensure it aligns with technical, professional, or safety topicsfor engineers/architects.
  • Receive a certificate of completion from the provider, which must include:
    • Student’s name
    • Course title and content
    • Date and duration of the course
    • Number of PDHs awarded
  • 1 PDH = 1 contact hour
  • No limit on how many PDHs can be earned through classroom instruction.
  • Keep records for at least 6 years.
  • When renewing a PE or architect license, submit a signed affidavit confirming compliance with the required PDH hours.
  • If audited, provide proof of course completion.
